Team Schnak Strong Fund

Specific Need

Money donated during Match Day will help families in Lyon County and surrounding counties with the expenses of living with Type 1 Diabetes.  Team Schnak Strong also give out scholarships to area kids to attend Camp Discovery Diabetic Camp.

Mission

Team Schnak Strong was established to help families that are affected by Type One Diabetes and also to encourage others to help families with a cause they strongly believe in.

Profile

In 2015, Kent and Natalie, founders of Team Schnak, started Team Schnak Cycling as a way to spread awareness about Type One diabetes after a family member was diagnosed.  Team Schnak Strong was founded on August 2016 in collaboration with the Emporia Community Foundation, with the intent to help families in Emporia and surrounding areas with expenses derived from Type One diabetes.  With Team Schnak Cycling, Kent travels all over the country in his "T1Destroyer", as his pickup is widely known, and spreads the word about Type One and its symptoms.  Team Schnak has also partnered up with Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  Kent does bike rides in their name to continue the fight against Type One and the search for a cure.

Besides bike rides and tours with the T1Destroyer throughout the country, Team Schnak visits schools and educates the students and staff about what Type One is and its symptoms and brings along "Buddy", a giant teddy bear that helps Team Schnak teach younger audiences about T1.

Camp Discovery in Junction City, Kansas offers a camp for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.  Thanks to the generous donations from many donors, Team Schnak has been able to grant scholarships for many kids so they can attend this camp at no charge; many of these children would not have had the opportunity to attend without the scholarships offered by Team Schnak.

Often Type One Diabetes is misunderstood and confused and it is Team Schnak's purpose to make sure communities know T1 and it's symptoms.  With the support of the Emporia Community Foundation, JDRF, and amazing donors, Team Schnak will keep on cycling and riding until there is a cure for T1.
