FEAS dba Flint Hills Animal Advocates

Goal: $40,000.00

Specific Need

Flint Hills Animal Advocates was formed as Friends of the Emporia Animal Shelter (FEAS) specifically to help shelter animals.  Very early on we expanded our program to include Lyon County and the surrounding areas.  We redirected our efforts in 2022 to concentrate on the medical needs of the public's pets and stray animals. New Name, Same Organization, Same People, New Mission. FHAA, is a small group of volunteers dedicated to making the lives of animals better.  That has not changed. We think every animal is special and we need your donation to help them.  Our biggest expense by far is medical. We also are believers that spaying and neutering is essential. We are the only organization in the area that helps families with their pets emergency medical expenses, small or large, including spaying and neutering. Please help us help them!

Mission

To improve the lives and welfare of animals in our local communities.

Profile

Our journey began in 2013 as an animal welfare organization to specifically help shelter animals.  As our organization grew, we wanted to help even more animals & their families in our community.  We very quickly included the public with their pets medical emergencies. We also expanded our reach to the 6 surrounding counties. We are still a small group of big-hearted, hard-working individuals that just love animals and want to make their lives better.  FHAA is run strictly by volunteers & donations and receives no city, state or federal funding!

We continue to have daily requests from the community for help with their pets due to hardships. These are our community members that love their pets but just don't have the resources at the time to help them. FHAA is there for unexpected emergencies, small or large, plus will consider other medical needs if we have the funds available.  We don't want any animal to go untreated. We have not turned anyone down so far, but that is a fear that we face...not having the funds to help an animal.  Our goal is for all pets to remain in the home with their family, healthy and happy.  We help with spay & neuter whenever possible, as we feel it helps lower the population of unwanted & homeless animals, as well as, being better for the animals health. We also have a FHAA volunteer who helps find appropriate no-kill rescues when needed.  On occasion, Emporia Veterinary Hospital, East Emporia Veterinary Clinic or Sheriffs Department will ask us for help in finding rescue for animals that have come into their care from unfortunate situations. FHAA helps to educate the public about TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) programs to reduce the feral community cat population.  We have run a TNR program since our beginning & with additional funds and help from the community, we have spayed & neutered several locations which we will continue in the future. FHAA has implemented a Safe Cat Program which includes a building for a cat colony to get out of the elements, food & water stations and a caregiver. This program keeps the community cats safe, provides neuter/spay/rabies vaccinations & keeps them from roaming and multiplying. All of this is done with the generous donations that we receive from Match Day.  We also hold low cost microchipping events twice a year in the spring & fall to aid in the return home of lost pets.  Additional fundraisers such as our annual "Spay-ghetti & No Balls" spaghetti dinner & our used book sale at the Great American Market will be held to add to our Match Day donations.

FHAA welcomes anyone that wants to join us and help in any or all areas of our mission.  We will continue to take care of the animals of Emporia plus Lyon & surrounding counties but we need your help now more than ever!  Match Day donations are greatly needed sincerely appreciated to ensure all animals are well cared for, receive the medical care they need and increase the probability of them staying off the streets, out of the shelter and remaining in their loving homes.  We will continue to do all we can for as long as we can because every animal deserves to be loved and cared for. Help us help those who have no voice!
